A favorite example I like to give is Ebon's litter. The father was yellow and the mother chocolate, but every last puppy was black. Genetics can throw some surprises sometimes!

That is a good question, and I don't know if there would be any downsides to working with a dark dog. Looking at some other breeds, the German pointers (shorthaird, wirehaired, and longhaired) frequently come in near-solid or even solid liver, which would blend in really rather well in the field. However, it doesn't appear those that hunt with them have any problems. If nothing else, you can always throw a hi-vis collar on the dog.Stephaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08840844954903338887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7010409378436372090.post-22064452297181585972012-06-07T15:11:11.903-04:002012-06-07T15:11:11.903-04:00i forgot ... if you want to see more photos of all...i forgot ... if you want to see more photos of all colours from claypond's look at my gallery:
http://claypondskennel.kuvat.fi/kuvat/POINTTERI+-+CLAYPONDS+KENNEL+-+ENGLISH+POINTER/
tiinaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7010409378436372090.post-10196627884491833142012-06-07T15:08:02.261-04:002012-06-07T15:08:02.261-04:00hi from finland and from claypond's kennel :-)...hi from finland and from claypond's kennel :-)
absolutely wonderful study!!
this breeder can tell you that she has a mission .... keep the solid pointers alive. solids have been part of english pointers from the begining and i noticed that they became more and more rare - so i decided to use a solid parent in every litter i breed.
so i can give my tiny share for this absolutely beautiful breed and all the colours and variations.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7010409378436372090.post-61905717052618816342012-05-28T02:08:11.504-04:002012-05-28T02:08:11.504-04:00Interesting, I would have never guessed pointer an...Interesting, I would have never guessed pointer and definitely wouldn't have thought that amount of variety was possible from the two parent dogs.

I wonder what the benefit of a black pointer is? They can't be easy to see in the field, right? And why this breeder chooses to take that gamble using her to breed.volunteer4pawshttp://volunteers4paws.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
