Can you guess this dog's genotype?
This is Lucy. The Shih Tzu "little sister" to Hank, she is also owned by my significant other's family.
Lucy is a sable. The patches on her face and back are clearly red in color, though instead of black there is an overlay of brown, which I will get to in a moment. Tan point does occur in the breed, but it appears to be unusual. I believe Lucy is AyAy sable.
Clearly, her skin is not black in color and is distinctly brown. As such, she must be bb liver.
I have considered that she may also have the blue dilution because of the fact that the overlay on her ears is so pale. However, I no longer believe this to be true. Liver can vary greatly in shade, and also she does not have the pale yellow-gray eyes usually seen in dogs with both the liver and blue dilutions acting together. Instead, her eyes are the amber color usually seen in liver dogs. Though it is possible she carries the gene, I do not believe this to be true, which would make her DD non-blue.
Lastly, Lucy is clearly mostly white, a common coloring in her breed. She is most likely extreme white piebald, and thus swsw. It is, however, possible that she has a piebald gene since extreme whites are not incredibly common in the breed and she does have color on her side, which is not very commonly seen in dogs who are homozygous for extreme white, something I forgot about when guessing Hank's genotype.
So, that is AyAy bb DD swsw or extreme white piebald liver sable.
At least this one has a relatively normal muzzle.
ReplyDeleteSome of these dogs are incredibly brachycephalic.
